Gordale's pumpkin patch trail is £5 a child from 17 to 31 October, Ness Gardens' Halloween trail runs 24 Oct to 2 Nov. Every Wirral Halloween event, checked.

Halloween on the Wirral in 2026 is spread across half term rather than one big night out. The two longest-running family events are both at the Cheshire end of the peninsula: the Pumpkin Patch Trail at Gordale, which runs every day from Saturday 17 to Saturday 31 October at £5 a child, and the Halloween Family Trail at Ness Botanic Gardens, Saturday 24 October to Monday 2 November. Halloween itself falls on Saturday 31 October, the last day of half term. Every event below was checked on the organiser’s own listing on 4 October.

The quick answer

  • Pumpkins to take home: Gordale’s trail, 17 to 31 October, 9am to 5pm, £5 a child including the pumpkin. No booking.

Pumpkin picking on the Wirral

Gordale Garden & Home Centre on Chester High Road, Burton (CH64 8TF), is the one pumpkin patch on the peninsula with 2026 dates published. Children follow a trail of Halloween characters, each hiding a letter; crack the code and you are let into the pumpkin patch to choose one to take home. It runs 17 to 31 October, 9am to 5pm, costs £5 a child including the trail sheet and the pumpkin, and needs no booking (Gordale). That is up from £4.50 in 2024, the price Visit Wirral gave that year. Gordale’s own opening banner shows Sunday hours of 11am to 5pm, so on the two Sundays (18 and 25 October) do not arrive before 11am.

On Tuesday 27 October Gordale also has Spooky Animal Encounters with A-Z Safari Party: 20-minute sessions between 10am and 4pm with giant African land snails, snakes and a tortoise, plus “trick or treat” trials. A ticket is £6.50 and admits one adult and one child; book online (Gordale).

Claremont Farm, Bebington, is the other name you will see. Visit Wirral’s 2024 Halloween round-up sent people there to pick their own pumpkins. The farm’s website lists no 2026 pumpkin dates; it gives only cafe and farm shop hours, 9am to 5pm daily (Claremont Farm). Ring the cafe on 07867 015246 before you drive over for pumpkins.

Ness Botanic Gardens

The University of Liverpool’s gardens at Ness (CH64 4AY) have the longest-running free activity of the holiday.

  • Halloween Family Trail, Saturday 24 October to Monday 2 November, 10.30am to 3.30pm. A 40-minute trail around the gardens built round the question “Which book has the Witch not read?”, the last of Ness’s National Year of Reading trails. It is aimed at 5 to 12 year olds. The trail sheet is free with admission; bring a pen (Ness Botanic Gardens).
  • Halloween Family Workshop, Wednesday 28 October, 10.30am to 12pm or 1pm to 2.30pm. A short walk, then children make a Halloween mask. Ages 5 and up, £5 a child, booking essential, garden admission extra (Ness).
  • Halloween biscuits and crafts, Thursday 29 October, half-hour sessions at 10.30am, 12pm and 2pm in the Bulley Room. Each child decorates three biscuits and makes a craft. Ages 3 and up, £7.50 a child, booking essential. The biscuits contain milk and gluten; bring a box to carry them home (Ness).

Admission without Gift Aid is £8.50 for adults, £4.50 for children aged 5 to 16, free for under-5s, £7.50 concession and £21.50 for a family of two adults and three children (£9.25, £4.85, £8.15 and £23 with Gift Aid) (Ness ticket prices).

Port Sunlight

Port Sunlight Village Trust has three Halloween events at the end of half term, all listed on its own site with prices.

  • Silly Spooks of Sunlight, Thursday 29 October. Professor Suds does ghostly science experiments, then children make a ghoul craft. Sessions at 10am or 11.30am, £8 each, Church Hall, Bridge Street (Port Sunlight Village).
  • Little Werewolves of Sunlight, Friday 30 October, 10.30am to 3.30pm. A folklore craft day making masks of wolves, fox spirits, owls and selkies. £6 a session, Church Hall (Port Sunlight Village).
  • Port Sunlight Spook-tacular Tour, Saturday 31 October, 6.30pm to 8pm. A twilight walk of ghost stories the trust says are based on true accounts, starting at Port Sunlight Museum. For ages 12 and over. £15 adult, £10 concession, £6 child (Port Sunlight Village).

For adults, the trust also runs Roots, Rituals and Soap, a folklore-led soap making workshop at the museum on Monday 12 October, 6pm to 8pm, £20 (Port Sunlight Village).

Floral Pavilion, New Brighton

  • Halloween in Concert, Tuesday 27 October, 7.30pm. A live band and cast doing Halloween songs, billed for all the family, about 2 hours 15 minutes with an interval. Standard tickets £34 (Floral Pavilion).
  • Cue Murder! Halloween Special Murder Mystery, Saturday 31 October, 8pm, in the Blue Lounge. About two hours, ages 12 and up, £26 (Floral Pavilion).
  • Stage-Ed West End Halloween Holiday Club, from Monday 26 October, 9am to 4pm, ages 5 to 18. The booking page has shown £189 while the description says £165 a week, so check the price before paying (Floral Pavilion).

The Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee, a daytime Halloween party Visit Wirral listed at the Floral Pavilion for 31 October 2024, is not in the theatre’s 2026 listings.

What has gone

Church Farm, Thurstaston, ran a month-long Family Fright Festival with tractor rides and pumpkin picking; Visit Wirral’s 2024 round-up still lists it. The farm park closed permanently on 4 June 2025, so there is no Family Fright Festival this year. More on what happened to its Christmas events is on our Santa’s grotto page.

Getting there

  • Trains: Merseyrail’s Northern Line tunnel works run from 11 October to 6 November. On Sunday 25 October and Sunday 1 November Wirral line trains from West Kirby and New Brighton stop at Birkenhead North, Chester and Ellesmere Port trains stop at Rock Ferry, and replacement buses run on to Moorfields. Weekday trains are not affected (Merseyrail).
  • Port Sunlight: Port Sunlight station is two minutes’ walk from the Church Hall; Bebington is the nearer station for the museum.
  • Gordale is on Chester High Road (the A540) at Burton, and Ness is a short drive off it near Neston; both are easiest by car.
  • For roadworks, see Wirral roadworks and travel; for town centre car parks, parking in Wirral.

We will check these listings again before half term and add anything new.
