Wirral's October half term runs from 26 to 30 October 2026. Nine things on that week, from Fireman Sam at the Floral Pavilion to a Port Sunlight ghost walk.
Wirral’s October half term is Monday 26 to Friday 30 October 2026, with schools back on Monday 2 November. Some schools break up earlier: Birkenhead School breaks up a week sooner, on Friday 16 October. Below are the dates, and nine things that are actually booked in on the peninsula that week, each checked against the organiser’s own listing.
The quick answer
- Half term: Monday 26 to Friday 30 October 2026. Wirral Council’s dates; most state schools follow them.
- Halloween is on the Saturday, 31 October, the last day before school returns.
- Trains: on Sunday 25 October and Sunday 1 November buses replace Wirral line trains into Liverpool.
The council’s dates are on its term dates page. Our Wirral school term dates page has the whole year and the schools that differ.

- Science Museum: Space Explorers, Wednesday 28 October at 12.30pm. A 90-minute theatre show made by the Science Museum with the UK Space Agency, aimed at 6 to 12 year olds. Tickets are £22 or £21, with a family ticket at £80 (Floral Pavilion).

- Stage-Ed West End Halloween Holiday Club, from Monday 26 October, 9am to 4pm, for ages 5 to 18, ending in a showcase on the Friday. The booking price shows as £189 while the description says £165 a week with a £30 deposit, so confirm the price when you book (Floral Pavilion).
- Cue Murder! Halloween Special, Saturday 31 October at 8pm in the Blue Lounge. A murder mystery set on Halloween 1925, for ages 12 and up; £26 (Floral Pavilion).
At the Williamson Art Gallery, Oxton
Leonard McComb: Nature and Humanity closes on Saturday 31 October, so half term is the last week to see it. The gallery calls it the largest exhibition ever held of McComb’s work, with more than 60 pieces, including Rock and Sea Anglesey, a drawing over 10 metres long lent by Oriel Môn. Entry is free but you book a day through the Floral Pavilion’s box office; there are no time slots. It is open 10am to 5pm.
In Port Sunlight
Port Sunlight Village Trust has three Halloween events at the end of the week.
- Silly Spooks of Sunlight, Thursday 29 October. Professor Suds does ghostly science experiments, then children make a ghoul-themed craft to take home. One-hour sessions at 10am or 11.30am, £8 each, at the Church Hall on Bridge Street (Port Sunlight Village).
- Little Werewolves of Sunlight, Friday 30 October. A folklore craft day making shape-shifting creature masks: wolves, fox spirits, owls and selkies. Sessions at 10.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm, £6 each, also at the Church Hall (Port Sunlight Village).
- Port Sunlight Spook-tacular Tour, Saturday 31 October, 6.30pm to 8pm. A 90-minute twilight walk of ghost stories the trust says are based on true accounts, starting at Port Sunlight Museum. Recommended for 12 and over. £15 adult, £10 concession, £6 child (Port Sunlight Village).
Port Sunlight station is two minutes’ walk from the Church Hall, and Bebington station five minutes from the museum.
Getting about that week
Merseyrail’s Northern Line tunnel works run from 11 October to 6 November. On most days they do not touch Wirral trains, but on Sunday 25 October and Sunday 1 November Wirral line trains stop short: West Kirby and New Brighton trains terminate at Birkenhead North, Chester and Ellesmere Port trains at Rock Ferry, and replacement buses run from both into Moorfields (Merseyrail).
Wirral’s bus timetables are also changing in October; see our Wirral bus changes story. For roads, see Wirral roadworks and travel, and for car parks near the Floral Pavilion and Port Sunlight, parking in Wirral.
Still to confirm
- National Museums Liverpool’s half-term programme at the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight. Its website was not responding when we checked; we will add it.
- Bonfire Night displays the following weekend are on our Wirral fireworks page.
- Pumpkin patches, the Ness Gardens Halloween trail and everything else for 31 October are on our Wirral Halloween page.
We will check the listings again in mid-October and add anything new.
